Tracking categories

Some great tips to take into account when setting up or tidying tracking categories.

Leaine’s Tips:

  • Review the Chart of Accounts lists before you add/amend tracking categories
  • Understand the hierarchy of the 2 available levels
  • Try to limit to not more than 8 options per track
  • You don’t have to track every transaction – eg. you may want to cover revenue streams on income codes but not expenses
  • Set up custom reports to review Unassigned output before finalising month-end reports
  • Find and Recode is useful to update transactions with tracking without having to undo payments
  • Great for Not for Profit funding projects – archive once fully completed.
